Jon DeCelles started to sculpt on little stones with a simple steak knife. He loved sculpting faces and was so passionate by this art that he took sculpture courses. The artist received the recognition of experts and was rewarded several times for his works.
During twenty years of work, Jon DeCelles’ realistic faces evolved into abstract ones. The artist can sculpt monumental pieces as well as miniatures of one inch. He uses soapstone, alabaster, marble or granite and selects the stones and the colours by himself.
For Maternity, Jon DeCelles was inspired by the birth of his sons, the softness and the comfort that give a mother’s arms to a child. Both have their eyes closed and have frozen this moment for eternity. His sculptures are full of tenderness and sensuality. They invite us to the sense of touch, calming and contemplation.
